Inside Amiral Cruises for Presidents®—Vietnam’s Most Poetic New Way to Travel by Water
On a warm Saigon evening, as the city’s glass towers catch the last light of day and the river turns bronze, a different rhythm begins to assert itself. Traffic noise fades. Conversation softens. Time, unexpectedly, loosens its grip.
This is the setting for Amiral Cruises for Presidents®, Vietnam’s first luxury boutique river–maritime cruise line—and, according to its founder, the most personal project of his life.
“Luxury today is not about going faster or having more,” says Phạm Hà, Founder & CEO of LuxGroup®. “It’s about understanding where you are, and why that place matters.”

A River That Remembers
The Saigon River has always been more than a backdrop. Long before skyscrapers reshaped the skyline, these waters carried traders, migrants, colonial fleets, and revolutionary journeys. Neighborhoods grew from its banks; shipyards like Ba Son forged industrial ambition; mangroves downstream in Cần Giờ balanced the city’s growth with nature’s restraint.
“The river is a living archive,” Pham Ha reflects. “If you move slowly enough, it tells you who we were, who we are, and who we might become.”
That philosophy sits at the heart of Amiral. Rather than treating the river as scenery, the cruise line positions it as the main character.
Not a Cruise—An Urban River Yacht
Designed in the restrained elegance of 1920s Art Deco, Amiral’s vessels feel closer to private salons than floating restaurants. Clean lines, warm woods, curated art, and open decks create a sense of quiet confidence rather than spectacle.
By day, guests drift past historic quarters and working riverbanks. At sunset, cocktails are served as the city’s lights begin to shimmer. At night, Saigon becomes a cinematic panorama—reflected, doubled, and softened by water.
“We didn’t want to build a ship that shouts,” says Pham Ha. “We wanted one that listens.”
Future overnight voyages will extend beyond the city toward Cần Giờ, Vũng Tàu, and Côn Đảo, reconnecting river and sea into one continuous journey—something Vietnam, despite its long coastline, has rarely offered in luxury form.

A Founder’s Long Memory
Pham Ha’s connection to water travel is deeply personal. In 1985, as a child traveling from Hải Phòng to Saigon aboard the Thống Nhất passenger ship, he experienced Vietnam not by road or air, but by sea.
“That journey taught me something very early,” he recalls. “Water doesn’t divide a country—it stitches it together.”
Decades later, after building luxury experiences at sea with Emperor and Heritage Cruises, returning to the river felt inevitable. Amiral, he says, is not a pivot, but a homecoming.
Happiness, Designed
At LuxGroup®, the guiding philosophy is Delivering Happiness—not as a vague promise, but as a design discipline. Every Amiral journey follows a carefully considered emotional arc: discovery, reflection, learning, celebration, and quiet enjoyment.
“If guests leave relaxed but unchanged, we’ve failed,” Pham Ha says. “Travel should make you feel more human, not just more comfortable.”
This ethos aligns neatly with a broader shift in global luxury travel—away from checklists and toward meaning, away from volume and toward value.
A Small Ship, A Big Idea
Though boutique in scale, Amiral is part of an ambitious long-term vision: Vietnam Waterways® 2045, which aims to position Vietnam as Asia’s leading river–sea luxury destination—much as Vietnam Airlines once did for aviation.
“We don’t need to imitate anyone,” Pham Ha notes. “Vietnam already has the stories. Our role is simply to tell them well—slowly, honestly, and with pride.”
As Amiral glides back toward its Saigon homeport, the city resumes its familiar pace. But onboard, the atmosphere lingers—unhurried, reflective, quietly joyful.
In a world that rarely slows down, the Saigon River offers a reminder: sometimes, the most luxurious journey is the one that helps you remember where you are.
And why it matters.
